Personal Alcohol Licence
The personal licence allows holders to authorise the sale of alcohol at licenced premises, or where a temporary event notice is in force.
A licensed premises must have at least one personal licence holder.
Once you receive your personal licence, you can act as the designated premises supervisor for any business that sells or supplies alcohol.
In order to apply, you must be aged 18 years or over, and hold a relevant licensing qualification.
Premises Licence
You'll need a premises licence if you want to sell alcohol or offer entertainment from a particular venue. A premises licence authorises the use of any premises (a vehicle, vessel or moveable structure or any place or a part of any premises) for licensable activities.
Licensable activities include:
selling alcohol
serving hot food and drinks between 11pm and 5am
You’ll also need a licence if you provide the following types of entertainment:
theatrical performance
showing a film
indoor sporting event
boxing or wrestling (indoor or outdoor)
live music
recorded music
dance
facilities for making music
dancing facilities
You still need a licence even if the activities are for charity.
Temporary Event Notice
A temporary event notice allows you to hold a one-off event which includes certain types of entertainment or the sale of alcohol without a premises licence.
Licensable activity includes:
selling alcohol
serving alcohol to members of a private club
providing entertainment, such as music, dancing or indoor sporting events
serving hot food or drink between 11pm and 5am
You’ll also need a TEN if a particular licensable activity is not included in the terms of your existing licence.
Pavement Licence
A pavement licence permits a business to use furniture placed on the highway to sell or serve food or drink and/or allow it to be used by people for consumption of food or drink supplied from, or in connection with the use of the premises.
Street Trading Licence
You must have a street trading licence to sell items from a trailer, stall or any other receptacle in a street.
Premises Licence Transfer Application
If you wish to take over a premises licence, you must make an application to transfer it and also obtain consent from the existing licence holder. A Premises Licence can only be transferred to a party who would be in a position to use the premises for licensable activities authorised by the Premises Licence.
